In plain words

You have to see the truth of Reality for yourself, with your own eye of clear understanding — no scholar can see it in your place. The moon, too, you must see with your own eyes; can anyone else's eyes show it to you?

Close to the Sanskrit

The true nature of Reality is to be known by oneself alone, with the eye of clear understanding, not by a scholar on one’s behalf. The form of the moon is to be known with one’s own eye alone — is it perceived through others?
