Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

“Those who, through sāttvika guṇa, know ‘the tattva of Brahman’, inspire in the world a life that is spiritual, moral and progressive, and bring the good fortune of beholding one's own svarūpa, I called ‘brāhmaṇas’. Those who, with a view to protecting statecraft, the system of law, the welfare of the country and Dharma, expose the wicked and the evil-doers, protect the helpless, humble and weak, stand by such people as a helping hand and support, and rule, I called ‘kṣatriyas’. Those who make things prosper by dairy and crops and by lawful trades and business, supply the ordinary people of the world with the food they need, and provide every possible means for nourishing the people's bodies, I called ‘vaiśyas’. Those who lay the foundations for the good of the world, take up works of service, follow those of the three varṇas above and give them the strength they need, I called ‘śūdras’. So I built the four varṇas. When each of them performs in this way the karmas of their own prescribed order, the world and society alike attain all-round growth. Because such rules exist, division of labour takes place, and the individual can live happily in the life of society, without ups and downs.”
