In plain words

O Kṛṣṇa! Stay! Hear our cry! Whatever anyone says, whatever sorrows they bring, we hold Your feet alone as our refuge; will You leave the gopīs in this state and go off to Mathurā without showing Your face!

All these principles of Prema belong to friendship itself. Yaśodā watched for some days; she saw no sign of Kṛṣṇa coming. And she too, in turn, in that madness of Prema, gave up everything and waited for Kṛṣṇa's coming.

O Gopāla, child at play with the song of the flute, why do you not show your face, darling of the gopīs? Have you forgotten your mother's Prema, my child? Have you gone off to Mathurā itself, have you left all fondness behind? Thinking, ‘Here you come, there you come,’ I watched for you just now; I cannot bear it, come, come, I cannot wait a moment more. (O Gopāla, child at play…)

All these belong to the principle of Prema alone. Then Kaṃsa set about tormenting Kṛṣṇa, who had gone to Mathurā, putting Him through hardships of many kinds. This news became known to Devakī and Vasudeva, who were in the jail. There, for her part, Devakīdevī was in anguish. She too, wondering what news might come, kept watching the roads from her window, in great anguish.

Demons in human form gathered to chase you through the city streets; how many torments Balarāma and Kṛṣṇa must have suffered! (Demons in human form…) Upon you, mere infants, King Kaṃsa let loose rutting elephants: how could his heart consent? Since the day I bore you, given over to hardships, what fruit of our karma is this, that we see it with our own eyes! (Demons in human form…)
