In plain words
Into an empty skull you can put anything; a skull crammed with this and that cannot be filled; a head filled with the teachings of Kali, can it be emptied? Unless that head is emptied, can it be filled with merit here?
There is water in the tumbler. If you want to pour milk into it, how will you pour it? First you must throw out the water. Then you must pour in the milk. If you pour milk into water, both are spoiled. In our heart, sacred feelings, feelings that make our parents happy, feelings that show due gratitude must blossom in us. If you cheat your parents and take the wrong path, there is no one more wicked than you. There is no use at all in studying. Instead of studying, you might as well go from house to house begging. First of all we must acquire good qualities.
A son without virtue, learning without an aim, a nation without morals: these bear no fruit; a being without Śānti is a night without the moon.
What use are they? We must grow in virtue through education. You yourselves must grow into fit leaders for this country. You are the ones who will uplift the Bhārata of the future. If such young people are not on the right path, the whole country goes to ruin. If the sapling grows crooked, the whole tree is crooked. Students are like the foundation of the country.
For the mansion called life, students are like the foundation. That is brahmacarya. On the foundation called brahmacarya we build the upper storey called the householder's life. On top of that we lay another floor called vānaprastha. The last floor is sannyāsa. A four-storeyed mansion. Its foundation is brahmacarya. If this is not sound, the mansion collapses. So we must see that the foundation is kept secure. This age is very great. It is most sacred. golden age. Children must be full of good qualities. In looking, in hearing, in speech, in action, in all things, they must be pure. First of all, foster Prema for God; when you have filled it into the heart, all the senses are taps. Through all the senses only good water will flow. Only the water called Prema will flow. As our heart is, so are our actions.
