In plain words

So give up this thought,” she begged.

“It is the lotus array; the crusher of the pride of foes swollen with their strength, mighty Kumbhaja, moreover, is the one who laid it out; the battle is terrible; your wife is with child; we cannot tell how the times will turn; your uncle and your father are not here; give up this thought now, my son!”

So she pleaded with him. Hearing his mother's words, Abhimanyu grew very angry. “I am the son of Arjuna, the great hero. When enemies come and call one to battle, to say ‘I will not come’ is not the Dharma of a kṣatriya. If I do not go, I will be the one who brought disgrace on my father. Even if my life goes, it is no loss. But go to battle I must,” he said.

“Fearless, upon Kumbhaja and the Kuru heroes, like the king of beasts, I leap, and a fierce, shattering, towering array of divine great weapons I loose on them in full; when I win thus, instead of saying, ‘It will go well with you,’ in this way to say ‘Do not go, do not go’ and hold me back so fiercely: is that fitting for you?”

When Abhimanyu spoke so, his mother, with nothing left she could do, drew the hero's tilaka on his forehead and blessed him.

“When he went to crush the pride of Tārakāsura's arms, the hero's protection Gaurī gave her son; when he went forth to slay Śambarāsura, the noble protection Bhārgavī gave her son; when he sprang to end his mother's bondage, the pure protection Vinatā gave her son; when He went to the forest to guard Kauśika's sacrifice, the protection of Dharma His mother gave the scion of Raghu; that blessed protection, that great protection, the protection of the sacrifice, and, divine among protections, the protection of Śrī Rāma: may it go with you as your companion and your shadow and keep you safe!”

Blessing him so, she sent her son to battle. Abhimanyu received his mother's blessings and entered the lotus array. He knew only how to enter; he did not know the way to come out.
