Passage 3

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

The home of the five elements is ether. Ether is the home of sound. Where has this sound come from?

She who is Śabda-Brahman, all that moves and is still, light and speech, eternal Ānanda, higher than the highest, Māyā and Śrī.

All these began from sound itself! Where has this sound come from? Sound began from Brahman. From this sound the Ātma began. From the Ātma the mind was born. From the mind speech was born. After speech, action took place. So the Ātma's first son is the mind. Speech is the very son of the mind. Speech is the Ātma's grand son. Action is the great grandson. Our action, speech, mind and Ātma: one family. People keep giving many comparisons for the mind, but that is a great mistake. Only the svabhāva of the Ātma must be there. ‘Ātmanā putranāmāsi.’ The Ātma itself comes forth in this world under the name of its son. The father comes forth in the form of the son. So the son who came direct from the Ātma is the mind. We must not use the mind in a low way. We must not put it to work as we please. It sees the whole universe. It hears every sound. But it has not a single form of its own. It has no shape. Yet the mind alone makes all actions happen. But you may delude yourselves that all the things you see are surely meant to be used, not to be given up.

All Experiences in Waking, Dream and Deep Sleep Are the Mind's Own Creation!

In human life there are three states. Waking, dream and deep sleep. Viśva is the waking state. That Viśva's form is made up of many forms and names. Prājña is the dream state. What is called Prājña, Viśva himself fashions out of many intentions. You fell asleep. In that sleep you reached the city of Bombay. There you had experiences of every kind. You saw your mother and father. You saw your friends. You enjoyed yourself in every way. But what created all these people? Mind! It created you yourself! It created your journey.
