॥॥

In plain words

Your mouth all smelling of butter, the whole village in uproar, nothing but quarrels; you are not even the size of a fingernail, child!

You are a little boy. You are not even the size of a fingernail, so why do you do all these big things? Why do you stir up trouble all over the village? With husbands beating them and mothers-in-law scolding them, you are putting the daughters-in-law through misery like this. Uddhava saw this very thing. He goes to Kṛṣṇa and tells Him:

Though mothers-in-law cry out, though husbands sharpen their knives, the Gopīs do not open their mouths, do not grow angry, go nowhere, are not afraid; like pictures in a book, Kṛṣṇa is within them.

Just as print sets on paper, so Kṛṣṇa's form was printed in their hearts. To separate that print, to separate the paper, is not possible. Kṛṣṇa was printed in their hearts. Then He said to Uddhava, ‘You foolish fellow! You went off saying you would teach the Gopīs some sense; have you come back having learned it yourself?’ Beyond the unbroken thought of Kṛṣṇa, they never entered any other thought. Once the Gopīs came. He seemed to be snoring. Then the Gopīs say:

Those who sleep, forgetting the body, anyone can wake! Who can rouse the great One who shuts His eyes and pretends to sleep? Why this trickery, Kṛṣṇa? Enough of Your games.

‘Who can wake one who sleeps on purpose? It is beyond us. If You sleep, the whole world sleeps. You have no sleep at all. We know that to be true. Since we know this whole secret, whatever You do, we will not listen,’ they said. The Gopīs of those days were Gopīs who knew Satya. They recognised Kṛṣṇa's Satya in everything and lived by it. There is no one at all in this whole world who has found this out.

Can we find You, Kṛṣṇa! Can we find You? You are subtler than the atom, greater than the great; in the eighty-four lakh kinds of living beings, ceaselessly You dwell, never leaving them, they say; from the atom to the blade of grass and the twig You shine forth as the undivided form. ॥Ninu॥
