In plain words
If there were truly happiness and peace abroad, why would they come here? There is no happiness or peace there at all. There they have the comfort of wealth, but not the comfort of character.
When wealth grows, arrogance grows; when arrogance grows, vice grows without fail; when wealth wanes, arrogance wanes; when arrogance wanes, vice leaves off, O Vema!
If you want to foster good qualities, you must stay in your very own land. I Myself am the example of this. Many thousands of devotees from various countries keep praying to Swami to come to their own countries. But to this day, that thought has never once arisen in Me. What is the reason? Bhārata is the root and basis of every Dharma. The yajñas, yāgas and other sacred rites that the people of Bhārata perform are so very holy. A train has its engine in front. All the carriages come right behind it. The power of the fuel lies in the engine itself. And it is in the engine that the driver sits. Bhārata, the home of yajñas, yāgas and other sacred rites, can be compared to such an engine. All other countries are like the carriages coupled to it. But some countries are falling away because their ‘link’ with the engine is not sound.
“Mātṛdevo bhava, pitṛdevo bhava”
Students! Love your parents, serve them, and keep them content. Carry out their commands with reverence. Your parents may tell you to go abroad and earn a great deal of money. Then you must gently convince them that character matters more than money, and that to foster character one must take refuge in God. If you teach them in this way, your parents' minds too will change. You must certainly do as your parents tell you! But you need not follow what is said out of foolishness. Through the influence of this Kali age, some parents are teaching their children ideas that go against God.
