In plain words

The true ornaments

Embodiments of Prema! “Jantūnāṃ narajanma durlabhaṃ”: human birth is very hard to attain. It is a gift of grace from God. You must put this sacred human body, which God has granted, into works that help others. Some people, whenever you look at them, are wasting their time in nothing but reviling others. That is nothing but the fruit of the sins of many births. You must speak good words. “Satyaṃ kaṇṭhasya bhūṣaṇaṃ”: the ornament of the throat is not a string of pearls, it is not a diamond necklace; Satya itself is the ornament of the throat. The beauty of the hands is not bangles of jewels. “Hastasya bhūṣaṇaṃ dānaṃ”: charity itself is the beauty of the hands. For what did God give you ears? For what did He give you eyes? If someone is fighting anywhere in the bazaar and people come to know of it, all of them run off there in crowds upon crowds. Is it to watch those fights that He gave you eyes? Is it to hear their foul words that He gave you ears? Chī, chī, how you are defiling your eyes! How you are misusing your ears!

“When time hangs heavy and it is the gossip of the town, how ready you are, and with what great care; when the talk of God is told so sweetly, why will you not stay attentive, O ears?”

God gave you ears not to hear the gossip of the town. He gave you ears only to hear the sacred Name of God. Then for what did He give you eyes?

“Going out of your way to the cinemas again and again, you go and go and see, and still you are not satisfied! To stand before God even for a moment, O eyes, is that so very hard?”

He gave you eyes only to behold the beautiful form of God, and not to watch cinemas and TVs. Through misusing their sacred eyes on TVs and cinemas, today even very small children are getting eye diseases. In middle age itself a film of cataract is covering the eyes. This body is coming to 75 years. But in My eyes there is no such thing as a cataract. What is the reason? I do not watch TVs and cinemas. What is it that you should see? Not the guises in TVs and cinemas; you must see the form of God.
