Passage 5

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

In this world everything is contained in the one Brahman. That is why, when anyone asks, “Sir, what is your name?”, you should say, “Ahaṃ brahmāsmi”, “I am Brahman.” God bears one name alone, Brahman; He has no other name. But people give God different names: Rāma, Kṛṣṇa, Govinda, Nārāyaṇa. All these names are given as we please! So we should not hold on to names and run after them. A mother calls each of her children by a different name. In the same way, in the world we call each person by a different name. By whatever name anyone is called, the Brahman in all is one. He who has known that principle of Brahman becomes Brahman himself. Only when we follow God’s Satya, God’s Dharma, God’s Śānti and God’s Prema can we experience the presence of God. Everything is merged in Brahman. So it is enough if we think of the name of Brahman. Brahman is in all, and is everywhere. Wherever one looks in the world, that alone is seen. “Brahman is real; the world is illusory.” We must remember constantly that Brahman which is the ‘reality’. Every human being must always remember, “Namaśśivāya, Namaśśivāya, Namaśśivāya.” In this five-syllabled mantra too the principle of Brahman is present.

The Ānanda of Brahman, the giver of supreme happiness, the very form of pure knowledge, beyond the pairs of opposites, like the sky, the goal of ‘Thou art That’ and the other great sayings, one, eternal, pure, unmoving, the seer of every mind...

No one should ever forget this principle of Brahman.

You must always remember your mother and father with gratitude

The resolve of God follows the feeling and the nature of His devotees. But when difficulties come, the devotee’s feelings keep changing.
