What must die dissolves into food, and food dissolves into grain; the grain dissolves into earth, and earth dissolves into smell. Smell dissolves into water, and water into taste, its own quality; taste dissolves into fire, and fire dissolves into form. Form dissolves into wind, and wind into touch, and touch into space; space into the subtle element of sound, and the senses into the sources they came from. The source dissolves, gentle one, into the one of change, into the mind, which is lord. Sound goes into the beginning of the elements, and that beginning, being master, into the great principle. The great principle, which has the strands most fully, dissolves into its own strands. They dissolve wholly into the unmanifest, and that dissolves into time, which does not wear away.

Time dissolves into the living being made of maya, and the living being into the self, into me who am unborn. The self, alone and standing in itself, is marked by the going away of division. For one who looks at it all in this way, how could the delusion of division stay in the heart of his mind, any more than darkness stays in the sky when the sun has risen? This is the way of enumeration I have told, which breaks the knot of doubt: taken against the grain and with it, by me who see both the far and the near.
