In plain words
Making the pots is the power of action. Only when these three come together is a pot made; with the power of will alone no pot comes. With the power of knowing alone no pot comes. So only when every man has these three, the power of will, the power of knowing and the power of action, is he changed into the form whose self is the Trimūrti. So man is the form whose self is the Trimūrti. The Trimūrti are Brahmā, Viṣṇu and Maheśvara. "Where are they? Who has seen them?" you may think. They are not anywhere apart. The guṇas sattva, rajas and tamas are themselves these forms of the Trimūrti. The sāttvic is the form of Viṣṇu. The tāmasic is the form of Śiva. The form of Brahmā the Creator is the rājasic. These three guṇas are in us ourselves.
Three leaves, the form of the three guṇas, the three eyes, the three weapons, destroying the sins of three births: one bilva leaf, offered to Śiva.
That itself is our humanity.
In the field called the heart there stands a single wish-fulfilling tree; around it a thicket of scrub and thorn, of the wild plants, has grown; pull out the weeds and clear the ground, and the wish-fulfilling tree is seen.
We are growing all the thorny weeds, but we are not growing the crop. First of all we must look into the goal in our heart. We must recognise the essence of study. Our walk and our conduct must be right. This is what was called nīti and integrity. Nīti means good behaviour, good conduct. Because nīti is not in us, the nation itself is wasting away. A nation without nīti is a nation of monkeys. We must earn nīti. For a nation, nīti is the chief thing. That nīti does not come through study. Nor is it what teachers teach. It is not something read in books. It is not what friends gift. It is not what Companies supply. It is not bought in the Market. It must spring from our heart. We must develop it in our daily life in the form of practice. We cannot think that practice comes from studies alone. There is little original knowledge in this study. They follow only one subject.
Students! There are some more things. Today, as soon as they have passed Intermediate, they go off to Engineering college and Medical college. What is this? Are they striving for a living? Or are they striving for life? If you look into it, even the parents do not see this clearly. As soon as he has passed Intermediate, he is still a tender plant. The parents take him and drop him into some narrow mind. This boy must become an engineer. He must become a doctor and earn plenty.
