Passage 9

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

If you ask any man what do you want: I want peace I want peace. Can peace be found in the world? The whole world is pieces. There is no peace. But peace is within oneself. What is the way for us to attain this peace? I want peace. three words. I - ego. want - desire. If you remove these two, peace is there, right before you. It is always there, and it lasts for ever. With this ego and these desires we are packing this peace away. These desires too we must reduce somewhat. What desires! To these desires there are no limits of this much or that much. For everything there is worry.

Being born is one worry; living on the earth is a worry; saṃsāra is one worry; death is a worry; in childhood there is worry; youth is one worry; old age is one worry; life is a worry; all karmas are worry; happiness is one worry. Bhakti for the Lord of all, who drives away all worries, take it up now at least, O people, eagerly!

However much science grows, however much intellect we develop, there is no Śānti in the world. The reason is that we are developing the outward vision. To the inward vision we give no chance at all.

We are far greater than all. Jantūnāṃ narajanma durlabham. Daivaṃ mānuṣarūpeṇa. God has come forth in human form. Forgetting such precious humanness, we are selling the life of man, which is like a ruby, for sooty charcoal. Who in this world is the rich man? Who is the richest man in the world? Who has much satisfaction is the richest man. Whoever is content, he alone is the rich man. He who has many desires is the poorest man. Though we have everything, we are becoming very poor because we keep increasing these desires.

Embodiments of Prema! As far as you can, keep desires under some control, take life to be a long journey and these desires to be luggage, and see to reducing our luggage, so that no great turmoil arises on this journey. In the Railway Department you must have seen it: Less Luggage more comfort make travel a pleasure. These desires we must reduce. We should keep only such desires as are needed.
