In plain words
Man lives with many worries. He himself has made up all of these for himself.
Being born is a worry, being on the earth a worry, family life a worry, death a worry, the whole of childhood a worry, old age a worry, living a worry, ruin a worry, all actions a worry, hardships a worry, happiness a worry: what a world of worry!
Sitting under a tamarind tree of twelve worries, if you want happiness, how will you ever get it? All these are nothing but what you have made up for yourself. All of them are only what you have attached to yourself through delusion. This is not God's creation at all. It is not God's gift. God is not giving any gift. Because to whom would He give it? When he himself is God, to whom is anything to be given? Your delusion alone is creating it. As long as we are sunk in delusion, we do not understand Brahma. As long as we are in this delusion, Brahma will not be within our grasp. Only when we drive delusion away will Brahma come within our grasp. There is no need to search somewhere far off. It reveals itself within oneself alone. There is fire. Carelessly you put the fire on the table. After some time, ash covered it. You think the fire can no longer be seen. But where did that ash come from? It came from the fire. The ash born of the fire has covered the fire itself. Blow on it. The ash goes, and the fire is seen. That is sākṣātkāra. That fire is the very same that was there before it was used. Through neglect, the ash called Māyā has covered it over. If you take away that ash called Māyā, the fire is seen as it naturally is. It is not something you have newly acquired. To recognise the principle in you, the very one that was there before, you must drive away the Māyā called attachment to the body that is in you. Śaṅkara said it.
Bhaja Govindam: that itself is what you have to do. What does Govindam mean? Go means the Veda.
