In plain words
In just this way your citta, your sacred feelings: these are your ownership. God is the driver. Regard Him as the driver, choose Him alone as the driver, and go on with the journey of your life.
Ninety years ago a devotee came to Shirdi from the village of Nānded. He was a very rich man indeed. Wadia was his name. He had long been trying hard to go to Shirdi. Dāsganu was a great friend of his. He went to Dāsganu: "I want to go to Shirdi. How should I go? The first thing is that the resolve to go to Shirdi should come. I have no children. I have all the money I need. I need your guidance to go to Shirdi," he said. In that same village there lived a man of very pure heart, one who worked hard, a man with a sādhu's heart. Everyone in the village called him Sādhu Swāmi. He lived by doing coolie work. He gave good teaching to all. He taught what he himself practised. Having had no work for some days, this coolie had grown rather weak. This Coolie Swāmi lay down under a bank. No one spoke to him. That day this Wadia saw him as he went by in a tonga. He was very weak. Because he had no children, Wadia had kindness and consideration. He spoke to a hotel-keeper. He told him to give this man food, whatever he wanted. They gave it. He ate, and gave thanks to God. For the one who has no refuge, God alone is the refuge.
Whether in the forests or in the sky, on a hill, or fallen in midstream, in the town or the village, wherever one may be, for the one who has no refuge, God alone is the refuge:
so the poor man thought to himself. He gave thanks also to the one who had fed him. After Dāsganu had told him, Wadia set out for Shirdi. He took his wife. He had Bābā's darśan. "Hey! Give five rupees dakṣiṇā," He said. He was a rich man, and he did not hold back. He took the coins out of his pocket. "Wadia! I do not need these five coins. He asked him to give one rupee and two annas. "Three rupees and fourteen annas you gave Me beforehand," He said. He understood nothing. Bābā is talking like this, the madman! This is my very first time coming to Shirdi. It is the very first time I am seeing Him, and at such a time He says I have already given three rupees and fourteen annas!
