Passage 8

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Where it begins, there it returns and comes to rest. On this very basis the Veda said:

That is full, this is full; from the full, the full arises; take the full from the full, and the full alone remains.

That itself is the Full. That itself is the sacred. Science: what is this? That is what it tries to know. Spirituality: what is that? That is what it inquires into. This means what is near; That means what is far. Science is what is ‘near’ to our senses; spirituality is what is far from the senses. What is ‘near’ may not be ‘dear’. But what is far is ‘dear’. Look at a small example. Some people have come from far countries such as Zambia and East Africa to see Swami. Because they are far away, they long eagerly to come here with great Prema. You have no such eagerness to go to the village close by. There is more interest in what is far than in what is near. That is beyond the senses. That is to say, spirituality is beyond the senses. Science is below the senses. Only when we enter the spiritual principle that is beyond the senses can we live a sacred life.

Do not be slaves to the senses

Today's students are becoming slaves to the senses. This can never be right education. Man must be the ‘master’ of the senses. He need not go beyond the senses. It is enough not to worry about them. From the time he gets up at dawn until he lies down at night, man today sinks and floats in the desires of the senses and leads an impure life. The senses are like his ‘servants’. So man must act as their master, and not become a slave. He must not do as they tell him.
