Passage 1

In plain words

On mountain after mountain God roams; in forest after forest God wanders; in village after village God is renowned; in city after city God is foremost.

A nation's honour stands on morality; a nation that lacks morality is ruined; a nation that has morality is the true nation; listen, O valiant son of Bhārata.

Śaile śaile viharati daivam. On the mountains, at their lofty height, swinging in feelings of exhilaration, all that roams there is God Himself. Vipine vipine vicarati daivam. In the forests, in their calm air, in what is felt there, in the cool breezes, in the gentle wind: there this God roams. In every village, God is He who brings about a divine atmosphere, with human radiance, with divine light, with humanness, with a harmony of one with another. In the towns, God Himself is He who, with beauty and grace, with a kindly atmosphere and with divine experiences, makes men blossom, makes them shine forth, and scatters the divine principle.

In the land of Karnāṭaka a woman called Mallamma beautifully made manifest God, the principle of the Indweller of all, whose form is divine.

For the village, the adornment is its houses; for the sky, the adornment is the moon; for the sea, the adornment is its waves.

A pond's adornment is the lotus flower. A village's adornment is its houses. The sea's adornment is its waves. The sky's adornment is the moon. The adornment that is beauty everywhere is the very svarūpa of God. That is why the Upaniṣads have gone on describing it as Satyam Śivam Sundaram.
