In plain words
That itself is a great gift’: so you must think. Why should you want money as well, along with the girl? Let the parents give their daughter whatever they wish! There is no fault in parents giving to their daughter. For you to take it is very wrong. We must keep gaining contentment of this kind. When you cannot be content like that, it becomes parigraha. If we are to follow the authority of the Veda in the right way, we should not take even the girl. Today, because Bhārata behaves against such dharmas, sufferings we know nothing of, troubles we know nothing of, sorrows we know nothing of, are closing in on us. But for these there is an exception: from parents, from the guru and from God. From your parents you may accept anything. For you are their very reflection. To your parents you are reaction, reflection, resound. You think you have come from them. No. You have come into the world through them. So you may receive anything through them. The son is the father's own self! So there is no fault at all in taking from your parents. But you must not take from your parents by fighting with them, going to court, or by any other kind of dealing. You must take what your parents give with love. You must not fight, saying "I have a right, after all". To act so is parigraha.
There is great holiness in this aparigraha. Even with parents there is some limit. But with God there is no limit at all. Whatever He gives, you may accept. For He is the Lord of everything! He has all the power that anything needs. He can grant the remedy for this too. He can take away sorrow too. So you have the right to accept anything from Him.
You alone are mother and father, You alone are kinsman and friend, You alone are learning and wealth, You alone are my all, O God of gods.
When everything is He Himself, mother-in-law, father-in-law, mother, father: none of these stands apart. You must not think of God as mother or father. Say "mother", and she becomes someone apart from you.
