In plain words
The home itself is the foundation of the whole world. When the home is set right, the world is set right. In the world fashioned of the seen, however much prosperity, however much happiness, however many delights and however many joys you enjoy, if in the home there is no joy, it seems like a great hell. The home itself is heaven. The home itself is Kaivalya. To set such a home right first of all is the chief duty. That is precisely why the Āndhras among us people of Bhārata keep saying: ‘Win the home and then win the assembly, they said.’ From ancient times all the fame and honour of Bhārata have grown through the Gṛhalakṣmī alone.
She who brought her dead husband back to life, Sāvitrī, is she not a wife of Bhārata? By the power of her Satya she quenched the forest fire: is not Candramatī a holy woman? She who leapt into the fire-pit for the chastity of a noble wife, Sītā, is she not born of the soil of Bhārata? In her anger she burned the evil-minded hunter to ash: is not Damayantī a woman of Bhārata? This earth girdled by the seven seas is made spotless by the chastity of the race of Bharata; it is a great harvest-field for the wealth of the heart; is it not the teacher of all lands?
The birth of women born in holy Bhārata, which has won such great fame, is birth indeed. Is not the river Gaṅgā, holy in form, who has won lasting fame for all time, the very form of a mother! Is not Bhārata the home of Mother Earth, Mother Cow and Mother Veda! In this Bhārata, the home of such holy mothers, women today must recognise that it is not right for them simply to forget their duties, put their faith in the matters of the world outside and lose their own divinity.
