In plain words
Whatever kind of people you make friends with, that is the kind of person you become. Only when you keep company with good people will you become good. So join good company. Join those who speak good words. Not one bad word must be allowed to come out of our mouths.
If we want to protect our health, we must keep the mouth clean. Otherwise many kinds of illness begin. As soon as we get up at daybreak, the first thing we must do is brush our teeth. We must clean them with the brush on all four sides. Because I clean my mouth many times over, my health lacks nothing at all. I never have a stomach-ache, a pain in the leg, a headache; not a single one. With my teeth I can chew even hard areca nut with ease. In this way we must look after our health ourselves. We must not depend on others for it. What a disgrace it is to ruin our health with our own hands and put our body in the hands of doctors! I often teach the children about the care that must be taken to protect one's health. With the right food we can protect our health well. Nothing should be left between the teeth. Some people take a plastic brush and scrub their teeth till they bleed. I do not use a brush like that. I use a soft brush.
Children! Get up at early dawn, run some distance, do some exercise, and then take some rest. At examination time some students, the moment they get up, sit on the bed and read their books, nodding and nodding with sleep. You should not study when sleep is coming on. Read your book when the mind is calm.
“I have read the books, looked fully into all the śāstras, learnt peerless kinds of learning”: why this pride in saying so? If your two hands you cannot join to worship the Paramātma with Bhakti, this present learning, all of it, is worthless on earth, is it not, O man!
