In plain words
When the nose you have falls away, how long will a nose that was fitted on last?
In the time of a sneeze it topples, this leather puppet with nine holes; tai tai tai tai tai, the puppet; see the fun of it, this puppet of Māyā!
If we do not understand the nature of this leather puppet even now, when will we ever understand it?
Beauty, youth, the strength of the senses: do not strut because you have them, brother; there lies ahead, and soon, the crocodiles’ feast called old age.
How long will this body last?
You cannot move about, the eyes grow dim, on the face wrinkles have come, the head has turned grey; when little children call you an old monkey and snigger at you, you snap at them, O tai tai tai tai tai, puppet, see the fun of it, puppet of Māyā!
How long will you stay young? One day your hair will turn grey. The body will wrinkle. The eyes will no longer see. In that state you will become like an old monkey. However long it lasts, this body is not the truth. You must not lean on it and give room to Ahaṅkāra. Little by little, from the very start, you must set about trampling Ahaṅkāra down.
