In plain words
If there is no faith in God, what else is there to have it in? This makes no sense at all. Without faith man cannot achieve anything. Only when he has faith can he win success in everything. So man must first of all develop faith. One who believes in God believes that God is in everyone. ‘Īśāvāsyamidaṃ sarvaṃ’, ‘Īśvarassarva bhūtānāṃ’. Īśvara is established in all beings under the name of faith. This is the very thing all the Vedas and śāstras teach: we must develop faith. As it is said, “Yadbhāvaṃ tadbhavati”: the result rests on our faith itself. We believe the news that appears in the newspaper saying, ‘This is what happened in Russia.’ But when someone tells us things that come from practice and from experience, which carry the power of Satya, we do not believe them. Faith grows only through character. But today we push character aside; we believe the words of others and are ruined. First of all we must develop self-confidence. Only then will faith in God take root in us. What we need most of all today is faith.
Fostering faith is the very aim of education
Students! Educated ones! Teachers! Lovers of learning! Fostering faith in you is the very aim of education. Education does not mean a mere acquaintance with books.
Are all who have learnt to read and write educated? Does one become educated by gaining college degrees? Is learning without right wisdom and good deeds true learning? If you do not know who you are, how can the knowledge of the Real be yours!
So man must make a fitting effort to know who he is. Without knowing that, there is no use in reading any number of books. When you take part in gatherings like this, you listen well to spiritual teachings.
