In plain words
Embodiments of Prema!
The Bhagavad Gītā is a scripture that has spread everywhere as one. People who do not know the Gītā are very rare. Not only the people of Bhārata but Westerners too are describing the Gītā, reading it, practising it and enjoying it. When we look well at the beginning and the end of this Gītā, it has made clear that it does not belong to one person, or one race, or one country, or one society, or one religion. It has taught a principle that is beyond place, time and person. In it, the first and principal śloka establishes Dharma, and the very last śloka brings victory.
Yatra yogeśvaraḥ kṛṣṇo yatra pārtho dhanurdharaḥ tatra śrīr vijayo bhūtir dhruvā nītir matir mama
First Dharma, and at the end victory. Where is victory won? Victory is won only when we practise Dharma. It has taught this Satya well. For man to come to such faith in Dharma, we must take certain important steps. ‘Vītarāgabhayakrodha….’ In this śloka it is said, ‘Only the one who has conquered all three, rāga, fear and anger, can attain divinity, can experience divinity, can merge in divinity.’ So long as rāga, fear and anger remain, divinity is not understood. It is not enough merely to restrain these three. Boundless Prema for God must arise. It is not enough that Prema merely arises. We must draw near to the one we love. It is not enough merely to draw near.
