In plain words
Union with God is yoga.
You must give up indulgence and love yoga. Even in the job you do, you must experience yoga. What is yoga? To be joined with God: that is yoga. When you open the Bhagavad Gītā, the very first thing you see is the Yoga of Arjuna's Despondency. But did he give up because despondency came over him! No! He joined Kṛṣṇa, the Paramātma, and won victory.
Wherever there is Kṛṣṇa, Lord of yoga, wherever there is Pārtha, bearer of the bow, there are fortune, victory, prosperity and steadfast justice: such is my conviction.
An orange cannot have sweet juice inside without the bitter rind outside, can it! In the same way, hardships are what first stand in the way of the good. But in those hardships there is so much happiness. Only when you crush sugarcane to pulp do you get the sweet juice in it. To make gold into a beautiful ornament, you must put it in the fire and heat it, beat it with a hammer and cut it. In the same way, if man is to enjoy peace and comfort, he will have to go through many kinds of suffering.
Only those who give have the right to receive.
They have called God “Hiraṇyagarbhāya namaḥ”. Hiraṇya means gold. This Hiraṇyagarbha is in every human being. That is why I call you “Bangārū!” Only when you have won over God, who is Hiraṇyagarbha, can you make the ornaments called Satya, Dharma and sacrifice. Without the gold itself you cannot make ornaments, can you! So first of all you must try to make the gold that is God your own. Only when you grow Prema in yourselves can you win God over. When you go to a shop, unless you pay the shopkeeper at least ten rupees, he will not give you even a handkerchief, will he! You go to God and say you want Mokṣa, peace and happiness. But what are you giving God? The right to receive belongs only to those who give. So first give Prema; then alone can you receive peace.
