Passage 11

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Even if it is your brother, reject him in the same way that Vibhīṣaṇa rejected Rāvaṇa, he said. So when there is conflict with the word of God, reject anyone at all, he said. Last of all, he taught the same even of the guru. Emperor Bali’s guru was Śukrācārya. He taught, ‘O Emperor Bali! You think the one who has come is a Brāhmin. He is no Brāhmin; He is the Lord of the three worlds. He has come to you to ask for something. But do not give Him alms at all,’ he said. ‘You yourself, who know Him as the Lord of the three worlds: when that Lord of the three worlds comes and holds out His hand below mine, my hand going above His, what good fortune that is for me!’ he said. This alone is fortune enough for me: that God should come and ask me, that I should give to Him; this is my good fortune, said Emperor Bali. God’s hand was below. The giving hand is above. He counted this great good fortune. He disobeyed even his guru’s command and made the gift. So, in the things of God, when we do the right sādhana with such deep faith, how great a divine victory comes to us! Whatever the undertaking, victory itself will choose us. Success in your examinations, success in family life, success in business, success in a job, any success at all: there is nothing in the world that the grace of God cannot achieve. We must keep it with God. That alone is enough. You can win every success right there. That is the very last śloka of the Bhagavad Gītā.

Wherever there is Kṛṣṇa, the Lord of yoga, wherever there is Pārtha, the bearer of the bow, there are fortune, victory, welfare and steadfast right conduct: such is my conviction.

So many kinds of blessing come to us, it says. Wherever you keep God in your heart and pray to Him with courage and faith, every victory will come to you, he said.
