In plain words
What is it we keep doing?
From rising out of sleep until you sleep again, for the belly's sake spending without bound or reckoning, pouring out your life on learning, forgetting the lotus-eyed Lord, what great happiness have you won? Think it over fondly, O man!
What we need first of all are the moral, the dhārmic and the spiritual. These are three of the five prāṇas. Today, in the world, the moral, the dhārmic and the spiritual have sunk to the bottom. Wherever you look, they are not to be seen. Dharma and justice have been banished to the forest. Injustice, misconduct and lawlessness have all filled the village. For every disease there is a medicine to cure it, but for this attachment and hatred there is no medicine. What is the reason? Selfishness and self-interest, nothing else!
Keep your aim on the pāramārthika and enjoy Prakṛti
Students! Selfishness and self-interest are needed, aren't they? But they must be kept within limits. Without that limit, through limitless desires, our life is suffering limitless sorrow. What happiness is there for this body of the five elements? What have we eaten? Is eating happiness? Is sleeping happiness? Is bearing children happiness? Is earning money happiness? No, no; there is no happiness in any of these. All those pleasures are gone in a moment.
Do not be proud of wealth, of people, of youth; Time takes all away in the twinkling of an eye; giving up all this, which is made of Māyā, know the state of Brahman and enter it. Worship Govinda, worship Govinda, worship Govinda, O foolish mind!
All these go in a moment. Children, you know this. They are all eagerness: ‘I must take a great degree, I must become a doctor, I must become an engineer, I want big degrees.’
