In plain words
When such Ānanda is right beside us, why should we fall into sorrow? Sorrow is against humanness itself. All of you are embodiments of God in human form! Whomever you love, it is as good as loving God! Whomever you bow to, it is as good as bowing to God! So love every person. Bow to every one. If you hate anyone, that hatred comes back as a reflection and torments you yourself. So grow Prema. Experience Prema. Absorb Prema. Share that Prema with many. This is the chief message of this year named Svabhānu. You are not ordinary human beings; you are reflections of God! When you recognise this truth and live by it, your thoughts, words and deeds will all be pure. From the time you rise at daybreak, think of the Paramātma; do not dwell on thoughts of others.
From the time you rise from sleep until you go back to sleep, for the belly's sake, spending your life without limit or reckoning, your learning poured away; forgetting the lotus-eyed Lord, what great happiness have you gained? Think it over with care, O man!
Some show anger and temper the moment they get up from sleep. In a home, if the parents get up quarrelling, the children get up fighting! The parents' feelings come to the children. So, to teach the children good ways, the parents must first practise them and set the example. In no situation whatever should we give room to anger and temper. Some troubles will keep coming. But, paying them no heed, we must go forward with a calm mind.
The body is yours; you are not the body
What did I say at the very start? “Ahaṃ etat na”: you must recognise, “I am not this body; I am the Ātma.” Then the pains and troubles that belong to the body cannot affect you. So many pains come to the body. We should pay them no heed. This body was born of troubles and grew up out of troubles. So there is no escaping the troubles it must undergo.
