Passage 3

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Not soldiers: you must be soul dears. Not the body. These soldiers belong to politics. You must become messengers who love the Ātma. You must develop human values. Where were we born, where did we grow up, where did we eat, where did we breathe the air? All of it in the sacred land of Bhārata! This is what they have been calling ‘Hindus’. ‘Hindu’: what does it mean? Anil Kumar said that a Hindu is one who keeps hiṃsā far away. No, no. Look into the five letters of the English word HINDU: H, Humanity; I, Individuality; N, Nationality; D, Divinity; U, Unity. This is the tradition of our Hindu. The five prāṇas: HINDU. The five senses: these are the five kośas. These are the five tattvas. These are the five elements. From ancient times the people of Bhārata have made culture their support. What is culture? Culture is that which has been refined. This is a silver glass. How much refining it takes to make it! You must bring the silver, put it in the fire, melt it, put it in the machine, draw out a sheet, and then give it the shape of a glass. Only after it has been refined in so many ways does it take shape as a glass. Every substance becomes a thing of use through refining. Every thing that serves us in daily life has been refined!

Human life is made up of artha and paramārtha!

Not only the people of Bhārata, but the people of any land:

From rising out of sleep until you go to sleep again, for the sake of the belly, spending without bound or reckoning, your life and your learning poured away, the lotus-petal-eyed Lord forgotten, what great happiness have you gained? Think it over gladly, O man!

From rising at dawn until lying down at night, how many plans, how many cares, how many kinds of turmoil go on in the heart!
