In plain words
Then those five fingers bowed their heads in shame. If you enquire truly, the heart alone is greater than all. Body, Manas, Buddhi, citta: all these are instruments and nothing else.
Students! Each one is great in his own right. So do not waste time in needless argument and counter-argument. Be friendly with everyone. All of you, as one, put down the forces of evil. There are many ideals we must practise in our daily life. Those ideals are not things one learns by reading books; they are within our heart itself.
Your own welfare lies only in the welfare of all
In every one, the ‘I’ is the same. ‘Who is Sai Baba?’ Ask that, and I say, ‘I.’ ‘Who is the Vice-Chancellor?’ Ask that, and he says, ‘I.’ This ‘I’ itself is the Ātma. The Ātma in all is one alone. ‘Ekam evādvitīyaṃ brahma.’ It is enough to recognise this truth; there is no need to do any further spiritual sādhanas. Spirituality means nothing but this: that we recognise our own true nature! Attachment to the body leads to Ahaṅkāra. Through Ahaṅkāra you cannot know anything. We are all one. Your own welfare lies only in the welfare of all. You must develop oneness of that kind. Where there is oneness, purity comes. From purity alone divinity emerges. The Veda has said that very thing:
Together, in harmony, let us move about; together, in harmony, let us grow; together, in harmony, let us nourish the understanding we have come to know; together, in harmony, free of disquiet, let us live in friendship.
You do not give your book to another; you do not help another in the least. If it is like this, how will it do? All must become one. Only then can they experience Ānanda. There is one thing, just one, that you must learn: develop Prema. That Prema is with you; it is in Me too; it is in the other person as well. In everyone I see only Prema. So all are one to Me. You too, conduct yourselves in that same spirit. Merely doing pūjās does not matter most.
