In plain words
If all the women go off to do jobs, who are the housewives to see to the tasks of the home? If husband and wife both go off to offices, who are the women to do the work of the house? If they go to schools to teach other people's children, who are the mothers to teach their own children? If they take up books and go out like the men, who are the women to keep the kitchen in order? Though the hardship that comes from money is cleared, how great are the wants within the home! Seek happiness, and it is only a zero for the woman who holds a post in a job, at any time.
You sang, “Mother, father, guru, God: You alone are everything.” You must bow to the command of mother, father, guru and God. Until now you have been students. After some time you will become householders. How must you conduct yourself as a housewife? You are quite little children. It does not make sense. The husband goes to the office. The wife goes out to do a job. Who looks after the work of the house? You must think about that too. In a family there are many expenses. So they say, “I too will take a job.” For a woman who does a job, what is called happiness is zero. Because there will be servants in the house. They may carry off anything whatever. Since she has been given the name Gṛhalakṣmī, she must be none other than the master of the home. So, however much women study, they have no happiness. Do study. You must study and teach your children. You must set your home in order yourself. You must teach your children well the learning you have gained. If they go to schools to teach other people's children, who are the mothers to teach their own children? So they must teach their own children themselves. All the learning we gain we must use for the welfare of our family. So all women must make a fitting effort to bring up their children themselves in the right way.
What is the name of our country? Mother Bhārata. The children, your children, must guard well the name of Mother Bhārata. They call it the motherland. They do not call it the fatherland. The mother must teach the children well. If the children fall ill, the husband goes to the office; the mother must stay close by and look after the child. If she too takes up books and goes off to school, who will look after the children? Some, those who have no children, may go to offices. There are no greater students than one's own children. You must teach your children right understanding. You must teach them right learning. Good conduct and good sense you must teach the children first of all. Just as your mother struck you on the cheek when your discipline was not good, when your children are not right you must teach them sound sense. The worth given to the mother has been given to no one else. Though they say it in other countries, our people do not say it that way. They call Bhārata the motherland. For these countries, Germany, Japan, England, the mother's name does not come first. They say fatherland. Bhārata alone they call the motherland. Since she is the mother, she must teach fine character to all the countries. HINDU. H-humanity: I am a human being; I am not a dog, not a pig, not a beast. I-individual, N-nationality: from individual we must go on to nationality. D-divinity, U-unity. There must be unity, in the right way. First of all, with unity present, divinity takes shape. If there is divinity, the whole nation becomes one. To see the Divine, there must be unity. So all of you must live in unity. But not male and female. Men are men, and women are women. After marriage the two must become one. The two must become one and bring up the children.
