Passage 5

In plain words

Having studied all learning and grown very discerning, the dull-witted man still does not know himself; however much he studies, in whatever way he lives, the base man cannot give up his vice; study and study deeply, and it is only logic and argument; he can never attain full Jñāna. Why study all learning only to die? You must study the learning that knows no death.

Today every man needs a broad heart above all. We must foster an expansive Prema. We must not enter a narrow path. Jesus enquired into this principle in many ways and came to recognise the real truth. Jesus too, at the very first, showing His natural feeling within the feeling of duality itself, said, ‘I am the messenger of GOD.’ Then, after enquiring and searching for some time, He said, ‘I am the son of GOD.’ Gradually He came to experience the close kinship and bond with God. Only then, after wandering for twelve years in the deserts and experiencing as oneness the bond between Divinity and humanness, did He say, ‘I and My Father are one.’ Only then did He begin to preach and teach: ‘My life is very joyful. It is Joy,’ He said. Twelve devotees who went about with Him joined Him as His disciples. The first among them was Peter. He trusted him in many ways, and would talk with him closely and privately about everything. He would tell him things without any secret of any kind. He said that to love all is the chief duty. ‘LOVE is GOD. Live in LOVE. God Himself is the embodiment of Prema; Prema does not desire the fruit. Prema is that which gives to the one who asks. That is man's goal. Only when man lives with such a principle of Prema does humanness experience Divinity,’ He taught.
