Passage 3

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

When I heard those children's words, I felt great joy. ‘Such virtuous children are studying in our college!’: that thought filled me with joy. It is because there are so many such children that the country is safe and well today. “If there were no virtuous men in the world, how would the worlds shine as by day!” Our children do not merely say it in words; they show it in deeds. That is my joy. It is to teach education of this kind that I have come.

Having read all kinds of learning and grown very clever, the dull-witted one does not know himself within; however much he has read, whatever his standing, the base man cannot give up his bad qualities; study as he may, sifting it again and again, he gains only argument, and never attains full Jñāna. Why study and study and study, only to die? Learn the learning that knows no death.

This truth has sunk deep into the hearts of our children. This is what students must chiefly learn! Once this learning is learnt, we can easily learn any number of other kinds of learning.

Students, embodiments of Prema! You went to Delhi, wrote the examination, and won a name as the best among lakhs of students. “These students are very intelligent. They are clever. Where have they come from? Are they from the South? Or from the North?” the teachers kept saying among themselves. Then one teacher: “Not the South, not the North; not the East, not the West. All of them are students of the Sathya Sai institution. Sathya Sai Institute students excel not only in their studies but in every field, and bring great fame to their institution,” he said.
