In plain words

We must give our gratitude to those who have done us good. In My view, one can say that simply living one's life in Ajñāna is far better than any amount of Jñāna that is not used and not put into practice. There is a little story for this. “Better a donkey than a horse that throws you,” they said. So, if all of today's learning lacks the very knowledge by which it is put to good use, it is better to have no learning at all.

Though he reads all there is to read and grows very discerning, the dull-witted man does not know himself in his heart; however much he studies, whatever his state may be, the base man cannot give up his faults.

Study study over and over, and you get only argument and dispute; full Jñāna he never attains; why study every study only to die? one must study the study that knows no death.

Though they have studied and become M.A.s and B.A.s, though they be great men of renown, though they have riches and are given to noble charity, though they be men of merit whose fame has spread over the earth, though they have long life and health without end, though they be men of full strength, though they do japa and tapas without cease, though they be brahmins who teach the Vedas, they are never, at any time, the equals of the virtuous.

Without good qualities, how can Mukti be gained? We must cultivate our qualities well. But today we have sent all our qualities into a downward fall, and we are changing only our clothes. Hearts that wear white clothes must keep on being just as white. The reason: antarbahiś ca tat sarvam vyāpya nārāyaṇasthitaḥ. What we wear are fine, spotless clothes. Look inside, and there are tainted qualities. Only where there is virtue is there a place. So today we must make ourselves people of virtue. There must be the right effort to develop that virtue. Morality, morality: what does it mean? Right conduct itself is morality. How can there be morality without conduct? “A race without morality is worse than a monkey,” they said. In society we must stand as people of morality. We must also do services of help, going to those who suffer and relieving their sufferings.
