Passage 3

In plain words

Caitanya too said so. Today people fill the human heart with bad qualities, when they should fill it with good ones. The seat of the heart is the dwelling of God. It is not a dwelling for bad qualities, evil thoughts and evil feelings. We must make such a heart the sacred seat of the Paramātma. This is not to say that you should give up family life. What goes with us is saṃskāra, not saṃsāra. When we go to a town on some business, we stay two or three days in a hotel. Once the work is done, we go back to our own place. We do not stay on there, taking that hotel to be our home for ever. This Prakṛti is like a hotel for us. We have come here for the sake of our karma. ‘The body is called a temple; the jīva is the eternal God.’ The body is like a town. Just as we leave as soon as the work is done, we cannot avoid leaving this body made of the five elements. No one knows how long it will last.

The body made of the five elements is frail; when it will be left, no one knows; they have set its limit at a hundred years, but do not trust that word in your heart; in childhood, or in the prime of youth, or in old age, or in extreme old age, in a village, in a forest, or in the midst of water, where it will be left, no one knows; death is certain for man; while the body is there, to become wise and to know oneself is the principle of Dharma, consider it: this is the true path, the word of Śrī Sāī!
