Passage 7

In plain words

The welfare of all lies within unity itself. How can one who does not seek this unity and this welfare make society progress? In this world, do not little ants band together and kill the serpent! Today we are losing unity. Even within each home, differences of opinion are growing. An organisation that splits falls apart. A country that splits falls apart too. So, for the prosperity of the country, men must live in unity. We must rise above the distinctions of low and high. We must hold the welfare of the country close to our hearts. Today this is something you all know! Splits are starting in party after party. Simply because these splits begin, those parties are falling to ruin. Once the parties have fallen to ruin like this, how can the country prosper? One who desires the prosperity of the country must push selfishness far away, foster unity and take the country's prosperity in hand. This is the chief principle of Bhārata. In sacred Bhārata, the people of Bhārata take the name of Bhāratīya, yet cannot say with pride, ‘I am a Bhāratīya, my country is Bhārata, my Dharma is the Dharma of Bhārata’; in that state they are forgetting the honour of the country.

‘This is my motherland, this is my dear mother tongue, this is my faith’: unable to say this, beating his breast, is there a single being on earth who has lived so?

Since you call yourself a Bhāratīya, you must foster the culture of Bhārata. You must follow the culture of Bhārata. Once unity itself is lost, what is left for us to do? People say, ‘Śānti, Śānti, Śānti.’ How will Śānti come?
