In plain words
The prosperity of the individual depends on the family. The prosperity of the family depends on the village. The prosperity of the village all depends on the district. The prosperity of the district depends on the state. So all the progress of the state depends on the individual. Without the individual there is no village. Without the village there is no district.
One individual is not a society. One tree is not a forest. One house is not a village. Only when many houses come together is there a village. Only when many plants come together is there a forest. Only when many individuals come together is there a society. Only when all are one does it take shape as a society. Human beings can achieve anything through unity. There is not a single thing in the world that cannot be achieved through unity. However great the task, we can achieve it. So every individual must strive to develop unity.
The welfare of the individual rests on the welfare of the village
Today the district officers and the ministers have all come and, with great splendour and with very broad hearts, have taken up so great a work, intending to give the country an example. I hope that all of you, as a helping hand in it, will come together and show your villages to be model villages and your districts model districts. In the villages especially, a great many feuds, quarrels and disturbances keep breaking out. But the village officers must see that no room at all is given to anything of the kind. Only when the village is well will you be well too. Your welfare depends on the welfare of the village. So you must see that there is no room for any kind of disturbance or discord within the village. There is one village, and in that village four parties. This is not right.
‘This is my motherland, this is my dear mother tongue, this is my faith’: unable to say this, beating his breast, is there a single being on earth who has lived so?
