In plain words
The heart You gave me, O Lord, that very heart I offer back, O glorious One; what else could I bring for Your worship? With folded hands I offer it; receive it, O Lord.
“O God! The heart You gave I offer back to You alone. I have nothing new to give You. All I have is what You gave. What You gave, I offer to You”: it is in this feeling that you must offer it. The Prema God has given you, you must share in turn with many. Hatred, envy, anger: where a man is full of these three bad qualities, even his wife and children will not speak to him. So you must rid yourself of these bad qualities. If you foster Prema, these bad qualities leave of their own accord. When man is born, he has a pure heart. But as he grows and grows, like the elder brother-in-law who grew into a monkey, he fosters every bad quality. The bad qualities are what he has gathered himself; they are not natural to him. How sacred humanness is! How divine! How noble! How delicate! Why do people ruin such humanness? It is not good to hurt others for selfish ends and self-interest. Rejoice when you see the happiness of others. Only then will your joy be doubled. Śaṅkara is He who bestows Ātmānanda and Cidānanda. Install that Śaṅkara in your heart and develop Ātmānanda, Brahmānanda, Nityānanda, Paramānanda and Advaitānanda. Born a human being, you must not live as a helpless wretch. To torment others is cruelty. If you torment others, you turn into a wild beast. If you fear others, you become an animal. You are not a wild beast; you are not an animal. You are a human being. So you must not hurt others. You must not fear others.
One must study the learning that has no death
Whatever you resolve, God keeps blessing it: “So be it! So be it!” If you make a bad resolve, to that too He says, “So be it.”
