In plain words
Without Satya, Dharma, Prema and Śānti, the worth of mastering every branch of learning is nil; without Satya, Dharma, Prema and Śānti, the meaning of charity and good works is nil; without Satya, Dharma, Prema and Śānti, the fruit of holding office is nil; without Satya, Dharma, Prema and Śānti, the gain of many good deeds is nil. For this mansion of Sanātana Dharma to stand, these qualities, my dear, are its four foundation walls. What more than this shall I make known? O members of this assembly, counted among the good and virtuous!
Embodiments of Prema! Man is born to experience Śānti, not to hold office. However much he may have, if man has no Śānti, his very life is empty. In this world there are many wealthy people; there are the educated by the crore; there are those who have held great offices. But what good comes to society through all of them? They have no time to relieve the hardships of the poor. In fact, there is no one who so much as thinks about the plight of the poor. Everyone is doing ‘show work’, not ‘social work’. They do not give even a handful of food to those who come to the door saying ‘Bhavatī bhikṣāṃ dehi’, and they snap at them, ‘Go away!’
What matters to man?
In fact, no one recognises the meaning of the word ‘mānava’. What matters to man?
