In plain words
Nothing like this happens in any other organisation. However many difficulties they have, they travel here with their own money. They pay for their food with their own money. Neither the Sathya Sai Trust nor the Sathya Sai Samitis give these teachers even a naya paisa. Nor do they take it. With minds that are one-pointed, they have been passing their lives happily. But one must not rest content with this much. We must reflect on how we should conduct ourselves, developing many more kinds of service, so as to instil human qualities in the students.
Without Satya, Dharma, Prema and Śānti, to have learned every branch of learning is worth zero; without Satya, Dharma, Prema and Śānti, the worth of charity and good deeds is zero; without Satya, Dharma, Prema and Śānti, the fruit of holding high office is zero; without Satya, Dharma, Prema and Śānti, the gain from many good works is zero. For the mansion of our Sanātana Dharma to stand, these four qualities are its foundation walls, my dear; what more than this can I make known, O members of this gathering, esteemed for your gentle virtues!
All that is spoken with Prema is Satya; all that is done with Prema is Dharma; all that is thought with Prema is Śānti; understanding with Prema is Ahiṃsā.
So Prema must be the stream that flows within Satya, Dharma, Śānti and Ahiṃsā. love is God, live in love. This is what we must do today.
Fear of sin, love of God, morality in society: these three alone are the human qualities. If we give up these three, there is no use in our being alive. One who lives a solitary life without recognising the divinity in society is not a human being at all. Only when there is this unity does purity arise in us. Only when there is purity do we attain divinity. First of all we must understand the principle of these three: unity, purity, divinity. However many nations there are, the earth is one.
nations are many, earth is one beings are many, breath is one jewels are many, gold is one.
You see! When oneness of this kind is felt, there is no room at all for hatred. From time without beginning, Bhārata has been offering many such ideals.
In every difficulty we must experience happiness. This can well be experienced. How? A scorpion has stung you. “Oh no! A scorpion has stung me!”: you need not weep over that; be glad that no snake bit you. If a snake should bite, do not grieve, “The snake has bitten!”; be glad that your life has not gone. Do not grieve, “There are no cars!”; be glad that you have legs. Do not grieve that you have no crores; be glad that you have enough to eat. This is the joy that lies within sorrow. To experience this is the right ideal.
Who is the real lord of crores? The one who has no desires is the lord of crores. But today our desires are going beyond all limits. So the subject called ‘ceiling on desires’ must be taught to students. “boy! food is God, do not waste food,” they must be told. There are so many people in this world who suffer without food. So take only as much as you need. This is the very first item in ‘ceiling on desires’. Next, the second is money. “wealth is God. misuse of money is evil. So, boy! do not waste money,” they must be told. Every coin of the money the father has earned must be thought of as a ‘blood drop’. So if you waste even a single naya paisa, you become one who has wasted the drops of your parents' blood. This must be taught well to children.
