In plain words
Students!
Do all green birds talk like parrots? Do the insects that crawl over flowers become bees? Does a pig grown as fat as an elephant become an elephant, sir? Not knowing who one is, how can knowledge of the Real arise?
Man today thinks himself great. One who lacks humanness is no human being at all. Only one who understands humanness and acts on it is a true human being. Only one who puts Satya, Dharma, Śānti, Prema and Ahiṃsā into practice and teaches them to all is a human being. If even one of these qualities is missing, that is nothing but a flaw! Man is a being of great intelligence. That intelligence is beyond measure. But it is not to be seen in practice.
Doubt is found only where there is a sense of duality
Once, Īśvara sat absorbed in tapas. Pārvatī longed to marry him. Her parents tried to persuade her that Īśvara was not a fit match for her:
“You are a young girl, Gauramma; Sāmbaśiva is an old man, dear; his head is full of matted locks, dear; what he wears is a tiger skin, dear; he rides about on a bull; at all hours he goes wandering; he has the snakes of the anthill coiled about him, dear; not knowing his secret, how could you choose him? He has no house, no doorway; he lies down in the burning grounds.”
