Passage 2

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Without spiritual learning, all learning is waste!

Embodiments of Prema! Before this, the doctor and the judge both told you about Swami. But all of it was only about worldly matters, not spiritual ones. However many kinds of learning you acquire, when above all you have not learnt spiritual learning, everything is waste! Man today has everything except one: self-confidence. In ‘self-confidence’, the ‘self’ is the ‘I’. You think that ‘I’ means the body. That is physical. That is not the true ‘self’. That which is none of these things is the ‘self’. What the eye cannot see, what the ear cannot hear, what the mind cannot know; the power of consciousness, divine and glorious, pervading everywhere: that is the true ‘self’. All living beings filling everything from the earth to the sky were created by God. All are forms of God! You think, ‘I am separate, they are separate.’ That is a great mistake. All are one. ‘Truth is one; the wise call it by many names’: in this world there is no second at all.

With hands and feet everywhere, with eyes, heads and faces everywhere, with ears everywhere in the world, That stands, enveloping all.

Nothing that is not God is to be seen by us in this world. No one has the authority to say, “This is not, that is”; everything is a form of God. Difficulty, loss and sorrow: all are forms of God! Though we have in us the power to know this truth, we are unable to know it. In this world there are vast lands; so many life-giving rivers flow: the Gaṅgā, the Yamunā, the Sarasvatī, the Pinākinī, the Kāverī, the Tuṅgabhadrā, the Godāvarī and others. With so many rivers, with such vast land, man still suffers for want of food. What is the reason? His failure to use the strength and ability within him!
