Embodiments of the divine Ātma!

From time without beginning, in our land of Bhārata, countless people have performed yajñas and yāgas, japa, tapas and dhyāna in order to reach God. Their belief was that God is won through rites such as yajñas and yāgas, and through japa, tapas and dhyāna. Today everyone, from the simple folk to the paramahaṃsas, is content with yajñas and yāgas. But no one can know the will of God. No one can describe God, saying, ‘He is like this, He is like that.’ God is everywhere.

With hands and feet everywhere, with eyes, heads and faces everywhere, with ears everywhere in the world, That stands, enveloping all.

With many faces, many ears, many hands and many feet, God pervades everything. It is God who is in all things. Such a God is not one to be won by yajñas and yāgas, or by japa, tapas and dhyāna. “Sarvajīva namaskāraṃ keśavaṃ pratigacchati”: to whomever we bow, it reaches God alone. But man is unable to grasp so subtle a secret. So great is man's weakness. Content with the pleasures of this world alone, he pays no heed at all to moral and spiritual things. In such a state, how can he attain divinity? For God, these two alone are enough: the moral and the spiritual. But today man gives up the moral and the spiritual and goes through all kinds of struggles for money. This is the greatest ignorance of all. Until this ignorance goes, God will not be understood by us.
