In plain words
When a little baby cries, it cannot leap up into its mother's arms. ‘I am the grown-up’: so the mother bends down. What does that mean? To stoop is not to submit. When man cannot leap up, Mother Sai bends down, lifts him up and gives him joy. An aeroplane always seeks to fly high; it does not move on the ground like other vehicles. Yet it does not stay aloft always and everywhere. Here and there it takes on board those who have earned the right to travel in it, and climbs back up. God is beyond the guṇas; it is not that He is off somewhere and cannot be found, nor that He is not; to each one who has the right to reach God He is the tree that gives Ānanda; as a ripe fruit drops from the tree, so all the jñānīs cross over. But we must not pile up interest on the sañcita and add to sorrow through evil deeds.
Whenever you receive divine Ānanda in your heart, that is the day Sai is born. I must reveal one more Satya to you today. If you think, ‘They are celebrating the birthday festival at Puttaparthi, so we are coming,’ that is not right. Because you come, we celebrate the birthday festival. That is, I have never had any wish to have a festival on the day I was born. You come from many countries through so many hardships and losses, and so the one feeling I have is that I must give you joy; apart from that, such petty thoughts never arise in Me. The day you recognise the universal form, ‘May all the worlds be happy’, and there is born in your heart the feeling, the zeal and the yearning that everyone should have happiness and contentment, on that day that heart shines as a temple of Sai. From that day on, wherever you are, there I am! Since this morning, so many who came to Me have said Happy Birthday! You need not come for My Happy Birthday; I am always in Happy.
Eternal Ānanda, giver of the highest joy, the Absolute, Jñāna embodied, one, eternal, stainless, unmoving, witness of every mind, beyond all feeling, free of the three guṇas —
For That there is always Ānanda; it is always Happy.
