Passage 4

In plain words

Today learning has increased, but the senses have fallen all the way down. Of what use is learning that does not bring the senses under control?

Having read every kind of learning and grown very clever, the dull-witted man does not know himself in his own mind; however much he reads, whatever his station, the base man cannot leave his vices behind. Read and read again, and all he gains is argument; he never reaches knowledge that is whole. Why read such learning only to die at last? Learn the learning that knows no death!

That is Prema. Prema has no death; Prema has no change. Everything in the world undergoes change. But Prema alone is immortal. If you would attain such Prema, you must put far from you bad qualities and bad thoughts. Removal of immorality is the only way to immortality. Today hatred has grown throughout the world. There is no longer any need for firewood to burn the body; hatred itself burns the body to ash. Man, who should cultivate virtues and come to see Paramaśiva face to face, is cultivating vices instead and turning into a corpse. In the speeches he makes from the platform he is a hero; in practice he is a zero. Sunk in self-interest and his own ends, he is ruining his own life.

Embodiments of Prema! Above all, since you were born as human beings, you must foster human values and live as human beings. You must earn the right to say with courage, “I am a human being.” You must guard the good name of the country and the honour and dignity of the culture of Bhārata.
