In plain words
Bearing every form, the peaceful; bearing every name, the auspicious; whose form is Sat-Cit-Ānanda, the non-dual: Satyaṃ Śivaṃ Sundaram.
Embodiments of Prema!
All the names that appear in this world of the moving and the unmoving are themselves forms of Śānti. All these bodies of the five elements, which every living being wears, are beautiful. The reason is that the Satyaṃ Śivaṃ Sundaram which is present as the one Ātma in all beings, in all creatures, in all living things: that is Divinity. Yet though these three, Satyaṃ Śivaṃ Sundaram, are in every man, man is unable to recognise his own Satya, his own auspiciousness, his own beauty.
Plato said this very thing some thousands of years ago: ‘Truth goodness and beauty: these three alone are the foundations of the world.’ Satya is the basis of everything. Satya is that which stays unchanged in all three times. Goodness: this is the true Divinity. The reason is that goodness is godness. Only when every person recognises this beautiful principle, this true principle, this holy principle, does it become possible to understand humanness to some extent. Man today reads the Purāṇas. He reads the Bible. He reads the Qur'ān. He reads the Vedas, the Śāstras, the Itihāsas and the Purāṇas. He recites the Brahma Sūtras and the Bhagavad Gītā. All these are merely like thin buttermilk. But the principle of Prema in the form of practice is like milk well boiled and thick. You leave such milk aside and drink buttermilk! Is there any substance in that? Practice alone is the nourishment of our life. The show in it is only propaganda, only preaching, only scholarship. Practice is what counts, not propaganda.
To a man who does not enjoy comfort, however much wealth he has, what is the fruit? Let the river run ever so full for the dog that laps the water: no joy comes to the miser.
