In plain words
Bearer of every form, the serene; bearer of every name, the auspicious; Saccidānanda, the One without a second: Satyam, Śivam, Sundaram.
Embodiments of Prema! Kṛṣṇa Janmāṣṭamī means the day Kṛṣṇa was born. But which is the true birthday? The heart of every human being is itself Kṛṣṇa's birthplace. The day our heart becomes cool, pure and serene like the Himālaya, that very day is Kṛṣṇa's true birthday. God manifests Himself only in such a heart. Kṛṣṇa incarnated at the hour of midnight, on the lunar day of Aṣṭamī. Many people consider Aṣṭamī inauspicious. But how can God's birthday be inauspicious? There is no such thing as the inauspicious at all. All of them are nothing but auspicious days! All of them are nothing but blessed days!
Kṛṣṇa was born in prison at midnight. At that time the guards were sunk in deep sleep. Only the parents, Devakī and Vasudeva, were awake. Vasudeva got ready to take the baby to the house of Yaśodā in Vrepalle, to save Him from the clutches of the cruel Kaṃsa. Gently wrapping the child in a cloth, he laid Him in a basket, set it on his head and set out. The prison doors opened of themselves. Outside, the rain was pouring down in torrents. Vasudeva was distressed that his little baby would be drenched in the rain. At once, by Kṛṣṇa's will, a great serpent appeared and covered little Kṛṣṇa with its hood, so that no raindrops fell on Him. Vasudeva crossed the Yamunā and reached Yaśodā's house. At that time Yaśodā was in the pains of labour. Her husband Nanda was sleeping peacefully.
