Passage 12

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

A name does not come from earning money and building houses and mansions. What comes today goes tomorrow. But a good name, once it comes, stays for ever. It never fades and never decays. Earn such a good name. Only then will you truly be called students of Sathya Sai.

“Prema is my great property!”

Embodiments of Prema! You know this. We do not take even a single naya paisa from the students. And if they need books, I buy them and give them myself; I take nothing from them. That is why their Prema for me, and my Prema for them, keeps growing so much. When they leave their parents to go abroad they do not grieve so much, but if one day I go to Brindavan, see the boys at the college and then return to Puttaparthi, the children weep. Where did this Prema of theirs come from? From Swami’s own Prema! The one thing I give to all is Prema! My wealth is not mansions and houses. My great property is Prema. I give my Prema and I receive their Prema. This is what I always ask of the children: ‘My dear ones! Give me your Prema. Whatever you need, I will give you.’ That is why the children have so much Prema for me. Grow such Prema for your mother and father. Conduct yourselves as your parents bid you. You will surely be uplifted. Wherever you may be, go on remembering God in your heart.

Whether one dwells in a forest or up in the heavens, in a city or a hamlet, on the hilltop or swept along in midstream, for one who has no refuge, Prema alone is the refuge!

That Prema alone will stay with you, beside you and in your home, and will keep guarding you as the eyelid guards the eye.
