In plain words

That is why Tiruttuṇḍāḷvār said:

A house of filth, a basket of a servant wasting in disease, a tuber that stirs as soon as it is born, a thorn hedge that cannot cross the ocean of worldly life, a quiver of arrows: rise and see; when you think of it, what is there to praise? Do not believe that this body is lasting; O mind, take refuge in the feet of Hari.

… did not make known the delusion of the individual soul. He proclaimed only the mind. Man means mind itself. But we take only the shape as the basis for calling him man. This is a great mistake. It is only because he has a mind that he got the name 'manishi'. If the world today is not as it ought to be, what is the root cause of this? Man means mind. Mind means the gathering of resolves. Resolves are the very practices we follow in our daily life. Only when the conduct is good does the mind stay good. Only when the mind is good does the man become good. So if we think the world is not good today, it means the conduct is not good. All our conduct must be nothing but divine, noble, ever-new conduct.

God is not something apart. The human form itself is God: daivaṃ mānuṣarūpeṇa. God has no special form. To take the divinity that has come in such a human form as mere humanness, and to give it over … only to worldly matters, is a path contrary to our life. To proclaim such sacred divine history to the world, Avatāras descend from time to time. I have said it many times. God's descent is not for wiping out your worldly life, your pains, your hardships, your sorrows and your worries, and giving you joy, delight, comfort and happiness; that is not why He descends. These hardships, these sorrows, these worries, these pains all keep chasing us, naturally, as the fruit of karma. That is why karmānubandhīni manuṣyaloke: this world of men has come only through this bond of karma, so these cannot be escaped. As your action, so the reaction. As your deeds, so the fruit. If you stand before a full-length mirror and bow to the reflection, the reflection in that mirror gives that bow back to you alone. If you strike the reflection in that mirror, or speak cruelly to it, it too will strike you in the same way and speak cruelly to you.
