In plain words

What is this body?

A house of filth, a basket for servants, wasting away with disease, a tuber that is born and comes to stir, a thorn-bush that cannot cross the ocean of worldly life, a quiver of arrows: rise and see! Whenever we think on it, that this body any longer will stand, do not believe it, O mind! Take refuge at the feet of Hari.

These are the very teachings Vedānta has taught

You have read the books; “I have looked fully into all the śāstras, I have learnt peerless arts of learning,” you say: why this pride? Your two hands it cannot fold to worship the Paramātma with Bhakti: this present learning, every bit of it, is nothing but ruinous learning, see, O man!

What is learning for? There is no use in it. From the day they are born, people learn everything. What are they learning it for? Today in the world, whatever sādhanas are done, not one sādhaka, no one at all, does them for the sake of God. Do tapas, do yoga, do yajña: they do all of it for themselves, for their own sake, and not for the sake of God.
