In plain words

What is the Ānanda of God? The Ānanda of living beings is itself the Ānanda of God. So you be happy. ‘I want happiness,’ they say. Happiness: where does it come from? Does it come from things? Does it come from relatives, or from the objects of the senses? Does it come from wealth and gold, possessions and vehicles? No, no. Happiness is UNION with GOD. All this comes from there! Oh! If you ask where this current comes from, travel on from that bulb, and see where that wire goes back and joins. There is the Generator. From there the current is coming. These legs, nose, hands, eyes: all these are like bulbs! Taking all these as your base, travel on. Where does it go and arrive? It goes up to the heart and arrives there. There is a car. The car's lights show. The horn sounds. If you inquire what makes this happen, there is a battery there. That battery is connected. That battery is this heart. Today people are forgetting that place of the heart. Everything happens through the heart itself; man today looks like a heart of stone with no Prema in it. The hearts of men today have become deserts without Prema. They pretend to have Prema, but not the least trace of Prema is to be seen. When they see someone, they say, ‘Namaskāram, sir!’ It looks as if they smiled. But that smile has not come from the heart. Cinema smiles, doing acting. The Ānanda that comes from within, the Ānanda that comes from the heart, shows itself in the face. Reflection of inner being. We must recognise well the principle of the indweller. The body is full of so many illnesses.

A filthy hovel, a basket of service wasting with disease, a tuber that stirs once it is born, a thorn bush that cannot cross the sea of birth, a quiver of arrows; rise and look; whenever we think of it, never believe this body to be lasting, O mind! Take refuge at the feet of Hari.
